Cookies

Girl Scout Cookie sales starts in December. There would be no more pre-order forms. They were starting “Cookies On Demand”. As a troop, we would have to decide how many cookies we would sell. There are no returns on any boxes we pick up from Council. We are responsible for paying for all cookies. I had no idea how to determine how many cookies a brand new group of girls could sell.

Council was a lot of help and found me the web page that states a good goal for starting girls is 50 boxes.

We sold that in 24 hours.

I had to go back to Council to get twice as many cookies as I did the first time.

Those were sold in 4 days.

I went back again and got more cases.

Again, those sold in just a week or so.

I couldn’t keep the cookies in stock. They were selling like crazy and booth season hadn’t even started yet. I went back several more times for more cookies.

Early February, I stocked up for the booths. We originally signed up for 3 booths.

The first booth was during the rain and on Superbowl Sunday. I didn’t realize it was Superbowl Sunday when I signed up weeks before and of course, I didn’t know it was going to rain.

We sold 2 cases. 24 boxes in 3 hours???

I had about 24 cases of cookies left to sell. There are 12 boxes per case and the troop makes $.40 per box. We based our cookies purchases for booth sales based on how many we sold the month before.

The other two booths were like this, too. People just STOPPED buying cookies. They were sick of them.

We’ve opened boxes of cookies, at the troop’s expense, to pass out samples. On Valentine’s Day, I cut hearts on my Cricut and we stuck them on boxes. People could personalize the heart and give them as a gift.

Katrina made up a cookie dance and that has sold several boxes.

I have sold so many boxes of cookies at my work. When I get someone to sign up for a credit card, the manager buys a box of cookies.

I’ve sold cookies to my pharmacist, my regular grocery store clerk, the mailman, my favorite clerk at Michael’s, my favorite clerk at Cost Plus, at my daughter’s apartment complex during Pizza night, my husband’s work, and more places that I can’t think of right now.

As of today, I’ve drug my Kindergartner to 10 booths at 3 hours each. That’s 30 hours of standing around in the cold and wet weather begging people to buy cookies. And I STILL have cookies left. I will be lucky if we break even with what I owe council.

I am so ashamed and disgusted that I have drug my daughter (and sometimes my son) through 30 hours of work for nothing. We will earn nothing for our troop. I have lost sleep over this and my husband is irritated with me (rightly so).

I just received an email from Council stating they have extended the selling period by one week. Apparently, I’m not the only one having problems selling cookies.

I’ve signed us up for 2 more booths during this extended week.

Venting

I was at work today when a customer asked me when my baby was due. I told her I wasn't pregnant. That's when she reached over the counter, patted my stomach and said, "Well, what's that all about hon?"

I tried to ignore her but she started telling me a story about her daughter and how a stranger asked her if she was pregnant. The daughter was mortified that someone thought she was pregnant when she wasn't. I was expecting my apology at this point but instead she asked me if I have any children. I told her yes and she said, "I guess that explains it."

I told her I just lost 35 pounds and she said, "Wow! You deserve a medal for that!".

"Have a nice day" is all I could tell her. I'm really hoping management gives me a Star of the Month award for NOT reaching over the counter and strangling her.

Mailboxes

I've seen some gorgeous mailboxes out there on the internet. These do not fall into that category. ;) I made these for the kids. I pulled out the vinyl I had left from Expressions Vinyl and put these together on Friday night. I stuffed them full of candy and gave them to the kids this morning. They seem to really like them.

$10.00 and 1/2 pound of bacon

...that is what this layout cost me. At first, Trent was happy with the $10.00 cash that I offered him. Within 30 minutes, he was whining about how boring it was to "write all of this stuff out". 2 hours pass and he's still not finished. Army men and suddenly reading is more interesting than writing. I begged him to finish but he kept getting distracted with other things. It wasn't until I started making dinner that his interest in this project peaked again.

"Ok, if you finish writing, you can have as much bacon as you want."

He was finished within 10 minutes. Trent really likes bacon. ;)

I was out at Michael's today and came across new K&Co:


I was just in love when I saw these new embellishments from the Handmade collection. That package on the left is filled with wooden shapes. There is also a bag of ephemera filled with all sorts of goodies. The tags are really pretty and so are the pebbles.



This is a little sticker book of stamps. I wish I knew who the artists are. I have looked all over the packaging and there is no name.


I love cards of any sort. I had to have these when I saw them. Aren't they cute?

There was a giant selection of stuff and I only had 1 coupon and a gift certificate from my birthday. I'll be going back tomorrow with new coupons for more.

Magnolia Stamps

cHere are some cards I made with these darling Magnolia stamps and Copic markers. I'm new at the Copic craze and only have a few colors. I bet you can tell which ones I have. ;) I'm not sure how I ended up with so many green/blue colors.

Katrina made this one. She colored it in herself and designed the card, too. Can you tell she did the punch border all on her own, too? She's going to give this one to her art teacher tomorrow. She's very excited!

Little Artist

Magnolia sent me some of the cutest stamps!! Thank you so much!! I'll be adding some projects using them to my blog in the next couple days. In the meantime, Katrina has discovered my Copics. I am a little uncomfortable letting her use them but I think I've trained her properly. Here she is coloring in one of my new Magnolia stamps with my Copics. Look how she added little pink cheeks!! Awwwww.....

New Technique Tuesday!!

I'm am so thrilled to be able to show off these new stamps from Technique Tuesday. I LOVE this new release. There are so many fabulous stamps! I know I say that every time but they REALLY ARE INCREDIBLE!

Here is the first one. It's called On The Ball and it is perfect for any sports pages. There is a basketball, a volleyball, soccer ball, bowling ball, baseball, golf ball, etc. plus plenty of words to use.
I also used Main Street and Storytellers-Ledger stamps on this. These pictures were taken by Erik while we were on our cruise last year.

They are also introducing a new font. It's a start me up set called Sew Fabulous.


All of the stamps, with the exception of the strip of buttons and journaling lines, is from this new set.

By the way, all of the layouts use Prism. Prism is my absolute favorite cardstock in the whole world. Bazzill will be carrying most of the Prism colors this year. I'm sad for Prism but I'm happy that Bazzill will be keeping the texture and most of the colors.

I HATE this outfit

I thought this outfit was cute when I bought it. I still think it's cute.

Katrina hated it. She refused to wear it to school or for any other time. She had such a temper tantrum over it, too. I asked her if I could at least take a picture of it before we gave it to Goodwill. This is what I got.

Love Frame

This is the first time that I've ever worked with vinyl and my Cricut. I can't believe how easy it was!

Expressions Vinyl hosted BBTB2 for this challenge. They sent out a healthy sample of their vinyl and transfer tape to each of the designers to play with.

We used one of the Valentine's cut from A Child's Year for our challenge. I watched a couple of the How-To videos at Expressions Vinyl. They gave me all the instructions I needed and I followed their picture frame video to make the project below:
It was so easy and a lot of fun. I'm going to use more of the vinyl to decorate those Target mailboxes.
